Effective communication is very important for everybody: Both personally and professionally

You are efficientless without any connection with people around you. Indeed the larger your group is the stronger you are and the stronger the others are. In the same way, exange of information is the beginning of all knowledge and upbringing. Exange of information permits to the expeditor to check his knowledge, and the receiver can learn a new thing. You cannot grow up without any help. That is why effective communication is so important. That is why it is so annoying to be dumb or deaf, due to the impossibility to create any link with others.
It explains also why accents of a same language can be so different, depending of the area in which you are. Indeed we repeat what we have learnt, what we have known. That is why Singaporeans, Americans, or English have such different accent.
An inefficient communication is a disaster because it creates road stop which stands in the way of your goal-Both personally and professionally.

  2. hey there Thomas,

No worries man, you have a couple of spelling mistakes but your sentence structure is just fine and I am able to fully understand the message you are putting across. =)

I agree with you, and I can only imagine, how being deaf or dumb can be so challenging! They are stripped of the most common means of communication, the use of words.

But I have always been amazed that despite that, they have found ways to understand and be understood. Through our lesson yesterday, I am now aware of how much we depend on our non-verbal communication (NVC) and for the deaf and dumb, NVC is more than enough to create a link with the rest of the world.

by the way, i love disney marriage proposal video! haha.

  4. Hey Thomas, like what Zab had said, you are doing fine.

No doubt, an inefficient communication could prove to be the major 'road block' for anyone to succeed in life, be it working or personal life. Friends could turn thier backs on one another due to communciation breakdown. Your boss would replace you with someone who is a better communicator than you are.

Verbal language could be important, but non-verbal language is just as important. I never knew how much I depended on non-verbal language until yesterday. As such, I feel that being deaf or dumb does not neccessarily means that they cannot create any link with others. It is annoying but it is not impossible. As long as we are able to decipher and convey the messages accurately in any form, there is a link and it is called effective communication.

PS: much to learn from the disney video. LOL

  6. Hi Thomas,

I agree with your point that effective communication is important both professionally and personally. Ineffective communication does come in the way of interpersonal and professional relations. Especially when barriers to effective communication obstruct the way, our intended message may come out wrongly or get misinterpreted by the receiver. This can be quite a disaster when misunderstandings arise.

Indeed, it must be difficult for someone who is dumb or deaf to communicate. However, I agree with Cai Jie that it's not impossible for them to connect with others. I guess the power of Non-verbal communication at its best is shown in the Sign language.

I shall end this off with a quote by Socrates, "If we hadn't a voice or a tongue, and wanted to express things to one another, wouldn't we try to make signs by moving our hands, head, and the rest of our body, just as dumb people do at present?"

    Cheers!

  7. Hey Thomas,

I agree with you that we HAVE to communicate well in order to succeed. Like they saying goes, There is no I in Teamwork. Human beings have to work together, and thus have to communicate with one another.

I do agree that not being able to communicate verbally has its constraints. However, like what the rest has already said, I do believe that the dumb and deaf have their own ways of communicating effectively.

I think that some of the skills we learnt in class can be applied to them as well.

Anyway, I think you are really doing well so far. Keep it up dude!!
