Oral Presentation Reflection

My last comment in this wall. So I will share my feelings about our Monday’s presentation with emotion.
I have already read some feedback, (yes I know, I am a cheat but it does not matter as my blog post will be more interesting) and I do not totally agree with my teammate. I think we did a good job and I give us the grade 10/10 though I know Ms Lim will not do so ( and it may be understandable)... Of course we could have done more rehearsals (but we have already done many, and it could have been too many). But I thank my team mates for having been motivated for so many rehearsals, thanks to them I know that a presentation can be rehearsed in details.
I am proud of our job, because it is also important to be proud and happy of what we did. It is just in thay way that one can be confident and it is certainly the most important point for a good presentation. Because when you are confident other are more peaceful as they know the situation is under control.
On top of that I am quiet happy because I know that I improved a lot during this semester in all aspects of communication. No matter if it is not the perfection as the perfection cannot be reached.
All in all, it is important to be proud of what we accomplish every day and be confident of ourselves, but the most important point is also to keep improving by pointing out some points that we can improve. The most effective way to find them is to ask to your friends. As I consider you as my friends I am waiting for your comments and tips: Please I want to improve…

  1. Hey dude,

I believe that each and everyone of us should take pride in what we do. I agree with your point. From what I see, I feel that you have improved much since the time I worked with you for Peer Teachings. That's a good thing.

Working with different people will always generate different kind of sparks. Be it conflicts of ideas or interests, I feel that the greatest takeaway that one can get from working in a team is learning to demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal communication.

I feel that you were quite confident while presenting. Apart from that, I feel that you can work on your non-verbal cues. Actions like folding arms during Q&A or while you are not presenting is a big NO-No. They will reflect badly on you and your team. They might be thinking why is your team so arrogant when you want to sell me your proposal etc.

You could do better too if you can show enthusiasm while presenting.

That's all from me and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours! Hope to see you in Paris in June!

  2. Hey Thomas,

It is pleasing to read the optimistic attitude you have towards your oral presentation. Overall, I felt that your group did a good job too. The great effort of the entire team towards the presentation can be seen in the performance. Having productive rehearsals can really help in improving your actual presentation. It is fortunate that you were in a group which encouraged doing so.

I agree with you that confidence plays an important factor in presenting. I felt that you had successfully exhibit this quality in your presentation. However, there are still areas which can be improved.

There were some parts of your presentation where you were speaking fast. Perhaps you could slow down, modulate your voice (like what was taught in the previous lesson), and emphasize on the key words.

During the Q & A session, you could have stand together with your group mates while answering. This shows solidarity and unity in the group. It will definitely be a plus point to the similar colour blue tops the entire group was wearing that day.

Other than that, good job Thomas. Keep it up and I am sure that you will be a good and effective communicator!

PS: Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is still one more blog post to go!

  3. Dear Thomas,

You have shown marked improvement from your Peer Teaching session. You were confident, made good use of gestures and maintained good eye contact with the audience. I think that you have all it takes to be a strong presenter but the language barrier was standing in the way, but you know what? The language barrier was busted during your final presentation!

I think that the delivery of your speech was clear and the pace was well set. Most importantly, you always look very confident when presenting and I think that that's something which I can learn from.

However, I do agree with Ikhsan that more team cohesion can be displayed. Like standing together with your team members during the Q&A session and make references to your team mates' segment.

All the best to your future endeavors! I hope that you enjoyed your stay in Singapore. :)

  4. Hey Thomas,

I'm happy to read that you are proud of our presentation. Personally, I was feeling that our presentation was not as good as it could have been, but after reading your post, I feel much better about it...so thank you for that. =)

From our (short) time working together, I see that confidence is something that comes naturally to you. That is good, for reasons that you have already mentioned. However, I think that you come across as overconfident sometimes. Perhaps it's due to cultural differences, as I think Singaporeans (or maybe Asians in general) tend to be more pessimistic.

Nevertheless, congratulations on a job well done! =)

  5. Hey Thomas,

I agree with the rest that you are a confident presenter as I really felt that way as soon as you started presenting. Initially I thought that you are going to rely on your notebook but no! you didn't at all. My judgement was wrong. :)

I also like that your calmness is consistent throughout. And I think that explained your consistency in your speed and volume. You didn't show signs of panic too which is good!

One thing to note on another non-verbal communication of yours. I realised that you tend to established much more eye contact with the audience close to you (therefore, at the right side of the class). Thus, I felt that it's not as well spread across the audience. Perhaps it's due to the fact that you are not standing in the middle and that's why the tendency?

Overall, you did a good job. And i'm glad to know that although you are confident, you still have that humble attitude to want to improve yourself even more. :)

Enjoy your remaining weeks here! :)
